Dreams do come true.

From the first time I laid eyes on this house, I had a dream: a backyard with a swing set, and a baby to play on it. (Well, baby first, then swing set. I'm also pretty sure that my dream featured a lot less dog poop, but whatever.) Today my suburban dream is complete. Here is a picture of my sweet baby playing on her very first swing set, and loving every minute of it. If she could talk I think she'd say, "Life is good."

Sometimes the small victories are the sweetest.

This is a picture of my daughter happily chewing on a biter biscuit. Now this may seem to some a mundane event, hardly worth blogging about, but to me it's a major hurdle finally overcome. This is the first time she has voluntarily put anything food related into her mouth, and - wait for it, people - she did it multiple times! I was so excited that I ran upstairs to find Andy yelling "You're never going to believe this!", effectively scaring him half to death.

Ava has become an expert Peek-A-Boo player, and finds it endlessly hysterical when one of our faces pops up from behind whatever she's holding in front of it. Today she was helping me reorganize the armoire in our bedroom, and decided that a pair of Andy's boxer shorts would make the perfect Peek-A-Boo prop. This would have been a fine idea, if she hadn't been trying to play it with the dog. Needless to say, it was the shortest - and most boring - game of Peek-A-Boo she's ever played.
Goodnight, Ava fans!

Hi. Come here often?

I love this picture. Sometimes kids are forced to hang out and be friends whether they like it or not, and such is the fate of Ava and Ollie. So far they really seem to dig each other, and that fact makes for a lot of laughs and some fantastic photo ops. They babble back and forth, touch each other's faces (Or smack each other in the head. Whatever.), and seem generally fascinated with one another. And to illustrate my point, guess whose little feet these are....

It's the summer of baby birthday's, and our friends' sweet little Brady turned one last week. The weather was hot but gorgeous, so we spent most of the party outside. Ava had never actually sat in grass, so we thought we'd give that a try. Turns out grass makes her really mad. Mad enough that we had to pick her up before I could get any pictures. But Ollie stepped in to demonstrate how the whole incident made her feel. Thanks, Ollie.

Baby Girl chose higher elevations for the rest of the evening.

Frankly, the whole thing was exhausting.

G'Night!

The Beauty of Summer

I love summer. Always have. Days spent splashing in swimming pools and oceans, warm evenings on the porch with friends and an ice cold beer, and the freedom your toes feel when they're finally allowed to flaunt their pedicures in sandals. Pure bliss. And to my delight it looks like Ava is going to share that love. Walks outside in her stroller (even when I put her in silly, oversized hats) thrill her...

Although I'm pretty sure she's going to be asking to dress herself as soon as she learns to talk. :)

You've already seen how happy swing sets make her...

And her first taste of outdoor swimming was a huge hit. She looked a little suspicious when I first started trying to stuff her into her new floaty, but the minute her feet made it through the leg holes and hit the water, she was hooked. Andy and I spent 20 minutes just pushing her back and forth to each other while she kicked her sweet little legs and giggled. I think we found a new favorite way to spend a Saturday.

Happy Summer, everyone!
